Headline 25th Anniversary Camp

Newport Beach, CA: - It isn’t very often that you get to see some of the top prep basketball players in the nation in action, must less broadcast the games, but all the future sportscasters attending the 2009 Sportscaster Camps of America camp will have that opportunity. Campers will be live at courtside at Mater Dei High School’s brand new 3,500 seat arena to call all the action of the Mater Dei Super Star Summer Tournament, as part of the 25th Anniversary Camp for Sportscaster Camps Of America, set for July 9 – 13th in Orange County, California. Add to the camp experience the broadcasting of a Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim vs New York Yankees game from Angels Stadium, and you have a five day experience that will be hard to match.

Now celebrating its 25th year, Sportscaster Camps of America is the nation’s longest running and most successful sports broadcasting camp experience. For five days “campers” ranging in age from 13 to 53, will learn about and actually broadcast live three basketball games, broadcast live a  Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim major league baseball game, broadcast a college football game and NHL hockey game, and tape two television sportscasts. Plus campers will also attend classroom sessions to learn all aspects of the sports broadcasting business from 10 regional and national sportscasters, who are also part of the 2009 camp staff. You truly have a sportscaster’s dream week.

Sportscaster Camps of America also boast graduates who are working on both the regional and national level… from the NBA its Eric Hasseltine of the Memphis Grizzlies, Tony Luftman from the Portland Trailblazers and Jim Kozimor from the Sacramento Kings; from the NFL its Joey DeCamara of the Philadelphia Eagles; from the NHL its Dave Goucher of the Boston Bruins; from MBL its Roxy Bernstein of the Florida Marlins; from ESPN and ABC Sports its David Norrie and CJ Silas; its Entertainment Tonight’s Co Host Mark Steines, ESPN’s Holly Rowe and Rick Waltz; and Fox Sports Detroit its Shireen Saski. All of these sportscasters are former SCA graduates, and there are so many more!

Spend sometime with the camp website visiting the Information page, the Action page, the Schedule page and so much more. Then to register, just click on the Application page and we will see you in July.

Roy, my name is Mike Lacett. I attended your camp during the summer of 2001. I just wanted to say how awesome it was and how it definitely helped me with my career. I am currently employed at WCBD Charleston, SC as a sports reporter/anchor after a two year stint at KESQ Palm Springs. If there is anything I can do to help with future camps, please let me know!

I had never been to the West Coast prior to attending the Sportscaster Camp of America. I had a great time, made some friends and came home with great memories. I learned about what it takes to improve and better yourself as a broadcaster. Roy Engelbrecht's camp is one of the finest traditions in training young sports broadcasters across America. I'm proud to say I am a graduate!
